The Padres snapped their 5-game losing streak with a 6-4 win over the Diamondbacks on Tuesday night. Yu Darvish pitched well in his return from the IL, firing 5 scoreless innings and issuing zero walks. Just one night after going 26 outs between hits, the Padres tallied 10 against the Reds on Tuesday. Jake Cronenworth drove in Fernando Tatis Jr. in the 3rd to put the Padres up 1-0. The turning point in the game came in the 5th inning, when the Padres had runners on the corners and 1 out. Jake Cronenworth grounded into what looked like a routine groundout that scored a runner from third, but Reds catcher Luke Maile was called for catcher's interference, which gave Mike Shildt a decision to make. He could choose the result of the play, a run scored and an out leaving one baserunner with two outs, or a free base for Cronenworth, but the run taken off the board and loading the bases. Shildt opted to take the run off the board and load the bases for Manny Machado, and play for the big inning. Machado came through in a big way with a bases-clearing double to bust the game wide open.

The Padres went on to score a few insurance runs, which proved necessary after Jonathan India pulled the Reds within 3 runs with a 2-run single in the 6th, and two solo home runs in the 7th. But the bullpen did their job, protected the lead and Robert Suarez earned his 10th save of the season. The Padres will have an opportunity to win the series on Wednesday when they send Joe Musgrove to the mound.
