Bird flu virus possibly found in a handful of wastewater sites, CDC says
There’s no solid evidence that bird flu is spreading among people, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Tuesday amid an outbreak of the virus in dairy cows. New data from 189 of the agency’s wastewater sampling sites showed that as of May 4, an influenza A virus had been detected at higher-than-average levels in a handful of sites across the country, including in Alaska, California, Florida, Illinois and Kansas.
City commission approves bid for airport project
The audience applauded and the gavel smacked during a lively Abilene City Commission meeting May 13. Other than the items about water fluoridation and the NW 14th Street and Van Buren Street intersection project, the commission held a land bank meeting about a Golden Belt Heights policy and listened to a funding request for OCCK’s Go Abilene public transportation program.
Spectator injured in ‘freak accident’ at Salina Speedway
SALINA, Kan. (KWCH) - A spectator was injured Friday night at Salina Speedway in a “freak accident.”. According to the speedway venue, a car lost a rear tire during the Compac A feature. The tire launched to the outside pit area where it hit a woman watching on. She was then taken to Salina Regional Health Center.
