Salem High School officially christened its new clothes closet, Recharge Boutique, last Wednesday, May 24. The project is designed to show love and provide care for every member of the school. Students have regular shopping hours when they can select clothes they would like to have. Some staff members have even used the store. All items are free.

Salem’s Peterson is winner in Viking Invitational race
Both the Salem and Glenvar cross country teams will be participating in the 18th Annual Knights Crossing Invitational at Green Hill Park in west Roanoke County this Saturday. The visiting Nationals will be trying to wrap up a spot in the Carolina League playoffs when they take on the Sox this week. Fredricksburg comes in with a five and a half game lead over the Carolina Mudcats in the CL North Division with a week to play in the regular season. Fredricksburg is a Washington farm team and the Mudcats are in the Milwaukee system.

Salem Museum Highlight 9/8/22
From 1886 to 1944, Salem’s social hub was Dillard’s Drug Store. Dillard’s soda fountain was the most popular in town, where social and business gatherings happened daily. College students and local residents loved the store, and many business deals and budding romances began there. Though no longer standing, it was a Salem landmark for multiple generations.
Olde Salem Days to return Saturday
Olde Salem Days is set to return Saturday, Sept. 10. from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in downtown Salem. “It has always been a big event and a pretty big deal,” Jane Johnson, president of the Rotary Club of Salem, said. An estimated 25,000-30,000 people attend the event each year.
Salem and Glenvar will meet on Hanging Rock links today
The Salem and Glenvar golfers will go head-to-head today when they tee it up at the Hanging Rock Golf Course at 2 pm. Staunton River will also play in the three team match. Salem is coming off a solid round of 300 on Monday in a River Ridge District match hosted by Pulaski County at the Thorn Springs course. That’s a very good score but it was still 23 strokes behind leader Blacksburg, who shot 11 under par as a team with a score of 277. Jake Albert of the Bruins was medalist with 65.
Salem, Glenvar cross country teams have meets this week
The Salem cross country team opened the 2022 season with a meet at Blacksburg last Saturday. The Salem varsity ran in an open 5K race that was not team oriented. Three Salem girls ran the 5K race and were led by Ryan Long. Callie Conner followed and Elizabeth Bocock was our Salem’s third finisher. Ashley Toapanta ran in a middle school 3K.
Salem Sports Foundation is looking for new members
The Salem Sport Foundation is kicking off another school and athletic year at Salem High School and looking for new members to join and old members to renew. Recent support includes funding for team awards for multiple teams and Hud’l memberships for multiple teams. Information on the Salem Sports Foundation can be found on Facebook.
Sandlot Football season opens
The Sandlot Football season opened last Saturday with three games at Spartan Field. The two Salem 8-and-under teams played each other, and here Jace Johnson (#10) finds a nice hole to pick up some yardage. The Flag Football and girls youth soccer season opened with games on Tuesday of this week.
