Stolen Vehicle Incident in Salem Turns into Hit and Run
Salem, Ore. — Officers arrested a 42-year-old man Tuesday morning, May 30, after a stolen vehicle incident turns into a hit and run. At approximately 7:20 a.m., Salem Police officers responded to the McDonald’s Restaurant in the 1000 block of Lancaster DR NE when witnesses reported a man hit by a delivery truck. Officers located the driver of the delivery vehicle, a 67-year-old man, with injuries in the parking lot.
Memorial honors seven lives lost in Interstate 5 crash
Friends, family and coworkers gathered Sunday evening to remember the seven people killed in a fatal crash on I5 earlier this month. Morning Star Church in Salem hosted the memorial, led by pastor and Chaplain George Escalante. The memorial was private, open to invited parties only, but a live stream broadcast the services to grieving loved ones abroad.
Marion County announced 7 sheriff candidates
On Tuesday the Marion County Board of Commissioners announced that seven candidates have applied to replace Sheriff Joe Kast. Semi-truck driver in Interstate 5 crash that killed 7 farmworkers indicted on 13 charges
A Marion County Grand Jury on Tuesday indicted Lincoln Clayton Smith, 52, on 13 charges related to a fatal crash on Interstate 5. Smith faces seven charges of manslaughter in deaths of seven farmworkers killed when the 18-wheeler Smith was driving veered off the highway, striking a passenger van and another parked semi-truck on May 18. A Grand Jury also indicted Smith for charges of assault, reckless driving, and driving under the influence of intoxicants, according to court records.

The employer of the seven farmworkers who were killed last week on Interstate 5 between Salem and Albany said the company considered them family and is grieving the loss. All 11 people killed or injured in the crash, which is being investigated as a DUII, were agricultural workers for J. Ruiz Farm Labor Contracting, a labor contract company in Salem. Seven people were killed; four were injured, some seriously. The Mexican Consulate said it believes the victims were Mexican nationals or have connections to Mexico.

SALEM, Ore. (KPTV) - A 27-year-old man has been arrested on multiple charges following a deadly hit-and-run crash in Salem early Sunday morning. The crash happened at about 3 a.m., on Sunday, May 21, at the intersection of Lancaster Drive Northeast and Beverly Avenue Northeast. Police say an investigation showed Gustavo Sosa was driving southbound on Lancaster Drive when he struck the back of another car and also hit a mid-size crossover SUV.
