SANTA ANA, Calif. – A woman with three prior driving under the influence convictions was sentenced today to 15 years to life for being under the influence of numerous drugs when she hit and killed a 23-year-old woman who was 8-months pregnant out for a walk with her husband in Anaheim. The couple’s infant daughter survived the crash after being delivered through an emergency C-section following the death of her mother. The little girl, now three-years-old, was in court this morning with her father to watch the sentencing, according to the OCDA .

Despite the Miami Marlins’ woes up in the majors, there seems to be a bright young star prospect growing down in the minors, and his name is Noble Meyer. Meyer, 19, was drafted by the Marlins 10th overall in the 2023 draft. He is the Marlins #1 prospect and their only prospect to make the MLB’s top 100 list (no.50). His triumphs come at a perfect time, as the Marlins will soon need him up in the majors. They currently have four members of their rotation out due to injuries. Their aces, Sandy Alcántara and Eury Pérez are both out for the season with Tommy John surgery. Adding to this list are Braxton Garrett and Jesús Luzardo. They both have injuries that could see them returning by June or earlier. The Fish could need a young arm for the rotation, and Meyers’ seems to be a perfect fit.

The mother of a missing man messaged me the other day to tell me she is looking for her son. She said he moved back to Denver from Florida thinking he could get a free hotel room as part of Denver Mayor Mike Johnston’s House1000 plan. Of course, those rooms all are full now. Also, most people who received the rooms were in established encampments that the mayor swept. There never were any rooms for people who might move to Denver one week to be housed the next.
