With rain in the forecast, the St. Peter softball team moved its home matchup against Fairmont with the aim to get the game in and the change paid off as little more than a light rain had any effect. The action on the diamond saw St. Peter build a 4-0 first inning lead and continue to build onto it, eventually earning a 10-0 victory in five innings.

With the win, the Saints improve to 6-5 (4-1 BSC) on the season.

Auden Anderson got the start in the circle and pitched the complete game shutout, earning the win while allowing five hits and striking out seven.

In the bottom of the first inning, the St. Peter set the tone with a two-out rally that featured a two RBI double from Belle Putz followed by an RBI double from Maddie Kamm. Kali Erickson drove in the fourth run of the inning on a bloop single short centerfield.

The Saints added a fifth run in the bottom of the second, but the effort was followed by Fairmont’s best scoring opportunity of the night. In the top of the third, the Cardinals loaded the bases with no outs, but the St. Peter defense proved up to the task.

The first out came on a popup to second that was hauled in by Erickson. Anderson struck out the next two batters to escape the threat with no damage.

Throughout the game, St. Peter would add five additional runs, earning the 10-0 run rule victory in five innings.

Piper Winters finished the game going 3-4 from the plate with three RBI’s and two run scores while Putz and Erickson each finished 2-3.

The Saints are scheduled to return to action Thursday, May 2, when they travel to Worthington for a conference doubleheader with the Trojans. Game one is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
