ST. PAUL — Saturday at sunrise, Statehood Day was marked by Minnesota's new flag and its debut at the Capitol.

The outgoing flag was lowered and walked it to the Veteran's Service Building where it was delivered to the Minnesota Historical Society to be preserved, per a press release.

The new design depicts a white star inside the shape of Minnesota in a shade of dark blue, representing the state's over 10,000 lakes. The light blue to its right represents the color of the sky. It was chosen through the State Emblem Design Commission in December.
