    Orioles run, jump, throw to the podium at the Section 6AAA True Team meet

    Birden runs to second place in both sprints; Wilsey is second in 800

    St. Louis Park track and field marked the second week of May with the Section 6AAA True Team meet on May 7 at Mounds View High School.

    The True Team format awards team depth instead of solely on individual finihses as all finishers record points for the total.

    Mounds View won the boys’ title with 1,207 points ahead of runner-up Edina (1,151) with Park sixth (576), three points behind fifth-place St. Paul Highland Park and seventh-place Minneapolis Southwest tallied 563 points among the 10 teams.

    In the girls standings, Roseveille held a narrow edge over Mounds View 1,108-1,098) with third-place Edina (1,026.5), Southwest was fourth (710.5) and Park was fifth (670) and Washburn was sixth (647).

    Individual highlights abound with senior Hanna Wilsey finishing second in the 800 run in a personal-best time of 2 minutes, 21.72 seconds while classmate Jersey Miller was fourth with a season-best time of 2:24.29.

    Miller was third in the 1,600 in a season-best 5:13.05.

    Junior Meaghan Knight was third in the 100 hurldes in 16.74 and was fifth in the 300 hurdles in a personal record of 48.88. Knight was third in the high jump clearing 4-10 as did senior Ruby Massie who was fourth in the event.

    Knight added a personal record in the long jump finishing third with a jump of 16 feet, 9 1/4 inches.

    In the boys events, junior sprinter Cordell Birden was second in the 100 in 11.21 and 200 in a personal record of 22.57.

    Senior Jakob Eenigenburg was fourth in the 400 in 51.82.

    Park’s 4x100 relay of Daniel Zilka, Sam Stroebel Pliner, Brady Shultz and Birden was second in 43.90 and the 4x400 relay was third in 3:33.67 with the team of sophomore Jacob Skelly, senior Oliver Tadewald, junior Paxon Myers and Eenigenburg.

    Freshman Everett Arnold was 10th in the long jump clearing 19-3.

    Minnesota Open

    Park took part in the Minnesota Open on May 1 at the University of Minnesota campus.

    Minnetonka swept the standings ahead of runner-up Forest Lake (222.5-145.25 in the girls standings and 175.16-145.58 in the boys standings). Park girls were fifth with 69.5 points, ahead of sixth-place Minneapolis Washburn which scored 68.25 points. The Park boys were ninth with 37 points, 11 points behind Simley.

    The girls team was highlighted by a trio of third-place finishes. Miller was third in the 1,600 in 5:19.13 while Knight was third in the 100 hurdles with a personal-best time of 16.39 seconds.

    Miller led a trio of Orioles among the top seven times in the 1,600 with junior Eleanor Lindeman sixth in 5:29.72 and senior Wilsey was seventh in 5:30.69, both were personal records.

    Wilsey was fourth in the 800 run in 2:27.29.

    The Orioles 4x200 relay team of Anna Williams, Audrey Martin, Ruby Massie and Carlson was third in 1:50.59.

    Knight was fifth in the high jump clearing the bar at a personal record of 5 feet and was seventh in the long jump clearing 15-11 3/4.

    In the boys events, Park’s 4x200 relay was second in 1:31.79 with the team of Stroebel Pliner, Tadewald, Eenigenburg and Birden.

    Birden, a junior, was fourth in the 200 in 22.72 and Eenigenburg was fourth in the 800 in 2:01.19, a personal record.

    The state True Team Championships will take place Friday and Saturday at Stillwater High School. Class AAA will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday with Class A at 10 a.m. Saturday concluding Saturday at 4 p.m. with Class AA.
