Life sentence for man convicted of 2020 Tower Grove South murder

ST. LOUIS – On the day he was scheduled to begin a jury trial for killing his ex-girlfriend’s aunt, a St. Louis man agreed to a plea deal to avoid a first-degree murder charge.

Brandon M. Langston, 33, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, first-degree assault, unlawful possession of a firearm, second-degree burglary, and two counts of armed criminal action.

The judge accepted Langston’s plea agreement and handed down a life sentence, which Missouri law calculates as 30 years. Langston will not be eligible for parole until he’s served 85% of his sentence.

Langston admitted to shooting Chamaine Stanfield and a second person on April 18, 2020, inside Stanfield’s home in the 4400 block of Beck Avenue in the Tower Grove South neighborhood.

Stanfield died of a gunshot wound to her head, police said. Stanfield’s longtime boyfriend returned home from work after the shooting and found Stanfield dead in her bedroom. Langston was still inside the residence.

The two men got into a fight. Langston pistol-whipped the boyfriend and shot him several times before running off. Langston left his wallet behind.
