ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The Walmart Supercenter in South County has undergone massive renovations.

While many competitors are reducing or placing item limits on self checkout, Walmart is expanding, having completed a 16-week renovation.

Stephanie Delaney, the store's manager, says they're streamlining the process by having a ratio of one associate for every three self checkout terminals.

Delaney adds those associates can check customers out, even if it's a self checkout lane.

"The cool thing is we'll check them out," said Delaney. "So a lot of people are like 'No, I want to go to a man register', well the associate can say 'I can get you out in five minutes, I can check you out."

Delaney says although they lost four traditional checkout lanes, the ratio of one associates for every three checkout terminals will allow those associates to better help customers.

"I'm up there every day and I will check people out," said Delaney. "Because it's for the believers who don't like self-checkout and I will say 'Come on let me check you out. you can stand in line for 20 minutes or I will get you out in less than five minutes.'"

Delaney adds the three to one associate to self checkout register radio will help cut back on potential shoplifting.

"It streamlines it," said Delaney. "That's why there's an insurance from both grocery side and (general market) side as well. It's kind of like a big pull pin, which helps."
