ST. LOUIS – A woman pleaded guilty to shooting at students outside of a St. Louis school on Thursday and was sentenced to several years behind bars.

A judge has sentenced Cierra M. Wealleans, 21, to six years in prison. She admitted to shooting at two students outside Confluence Preparatory Academy in December 2022.

Investigators say the school’s principal was leading students to school buses while Wealleans argued with several students. As the principal attempted to deescalate the situation, Wealleans pulled out a gun and fired toward the students.

According to court records, the principal and a security guard tackled Wealleans, prompting the gun to discharge again toward the buses. The incident was recorded captured on the school’s surveillance cameras.

Wealleans pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action, and one count of unlawful use of a weapon. She had originally been charged with counts of first-degree assault, though prosecutors amended the charge as part of a plea agreement.
