📣Cheerleaders learn how to stay safe

By Lucia Viti, St. Augustine Record,

Welcome to a sunny 🌞and warm (temps climbing up to 87) Tuesday. No clouds expected; hope for a breeze!

This week we're celebrating fun, elegant and delicious eateries to share with moms on Mother's Day, which is this Sunday, May 12. Today we spotlight one of my all-time ever favorites. Seriously.

Nestled between St. Augustine's Castillo de San Marcos National Monument , Flagler College , a myriad of museums, art galleries, retail shops, bars, eateries, even horse-and buggy rides sits a first-class fine dining restaurant: St. Augustine's Collage .

Replete with awards, Collage has a reputation that precedes itself. OpenTable named the gem one of the Top 100 Romantic Restaurants in America for 2024 after analyzing over 12 million diner reviews submitted by OpenTable users. While we can't promise you'll get a reservation for Sunday, may we suggest a wrapped-boxed note for a future date? Click here to read the story.

The Tristyn Bailey Family, the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office (SJSO) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) are hosting an online safety presentation for cheerleaders on May 8 at 6 p.m. at the Tocoi Creek High School Auditorium. Members of the Bailey family will be among those present to encourage cheerleaders and their families to continue Tristyn’s legacy by championing education on the dangers of social media.

According to SJSO, HSI special agents will review topics to include tactics used by adult predators online; growing trends of sextortion; information detected from external devices; and apps, online games, and social networks children use.

Today, we answer with glee a very simple question. "D" asked, "Will the City host Concerts in the Plaza this year and if so, when?"

The City of St. Augustine's free weekly Thursday night concerts kick off May 30-Aug. 29, at the Plaza de la Constitución at 6 p.m. Concert guests include the Red Level Band ; The Committee ; Paige King Johnson ; Crab Creek Band ; Dewey Via Band ; All Star Orchestra ; Glory ; I-Vibes ; The Groove Coalition ; Shayla Nelson ; Feedback ; Str8Up ; JC Hatfield Trio ; and the Think & Thin String Band . Two concerts will be held in September to coincide with Hispanic Heritage month.

City metered parking will be available. Residents and guests also can park at the Historic Downtown Parking Facility located at the St. Augustine Visitors Information Center. There is $3 parking per entry for residents registered through ParkStAug and $20 for guests. The STAR Downtown Circulator will offer free shuttle service 10 a.m.-10 p.m.

Concerts may be canceled or postponed due to inclement weather. Click here for details.

St. Augustinians, let's kick back our heels living in and loving our nation's oldest city. Keep the "Hey, I have an idea; and did you know; and why is this happening in St. Augustine?" and of course, Tuesday's, "I've got a question," coming to me at Lviti@gannett.com
