Man hit, killed by vehicle in Bessemer
A 37-year-old Bessemer man was killed when he was hit by a vehicle Sunday night. The coroner says Franklin James Walker was walking in the roadway in the 1000 block of 19th Street North when he was hit. Walker died at the scene. The Bessemer Police Department is investigating.

Collection box at Jefferson Co. post office broken into, contents stolen over the weekend
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) - A collection box at a Jefferson County post office was broken into over the weekend, the United State Postal Service (USPS) confirmed. “The US Postal Inspection Service is aware of the break-in to the blue collection box at the Shannon Post Office over the weekend,” the USPS said in a statement to WBRC. “While the U.S. Mail remains one of the most secure means to transmit such items, unfortunately, these items are also attractive to thieves.”

Convicted murderer from Coosa County found dead in prison cell
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. — An Alabama prisoner serving a life sentence for murder was declared dead after being found in his cell. The Jefferson County Coroner Medical Examiner's Office said James Clark, Jr., 55, was declared deceased just before 7 a.m. May 12 at William Donaldson Correctional Facility in the Bessemer area.
