(FOX40.COM) — Sacramento drivers may already be used to the delays caused by the various railroads for freight and passenger trains, as well as light rail trains, but there have been extra delays near a Broadway intersection due to a fire earlier this year.

Railroad tracks for Union Pacific freight trains and Sacramento Regional Transit’s Blue Line cross Broadway and X St. between 19th and 20th streets, right next to a housing project under construction that caught fire in late March.

Authorities have yet to identify the cause of the fire, but fire officials said in April that they could not see any “human activity” near the area at the time of the fire.

The fire heavily damaged the housing project, as well as railroad crossing equipment from SacRT near X St., and this is what is causing the longer delays.

According to a SacRT spokesperson, “a stop and proceed is in place at X St. until the repairs are finalized.”

The spokesperson also said, “Stop orders or slow down orders are possible at times to mitigate potential incidents, especially when facing circumstances such as malfunctioning or damaged crossing arms.”

SacRT has secured a permit to repair the equipment on Wednesday, May 22, and the agency expects repairs to be finished that same day.

A closure of X St. between 19th and 20th streets will be in place, but the repairs won’t impact train service, the spokesperson said.
