SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — This year marks 60 years since the launch of President Lyndon Johnson’s so-called “War on Poverty.” It was a massive federal effort to help families through national programs we’re familiar with today, like Medicare and Medicaid, Head Start and SNAP benefits. It also set up agencies to help with affordable housing, including the Madison, South Dakota-based Inter-Lakes Community Action Partnership.
