Madison resident receives community donations following severe burn injuries

When Barb Hansen, a 78-year-old Madison resident, was involved in an accident that resulted in severe 3rd- and 4th-degree burns on both of her legs and feet, her daughter, Betty Rook, started a fund-raiser on GoFundMe.com to assist with medical and recovery expenses, and the community response has been enormous.

The Madison Central School Educational Foundation Board of Directors and scholarship donors were present to award Foundation scholarships to MHS graduating seniors. Executive Director, Renae Prostrollo said the foundation scholarships will total over $45,000 this year. Prostrollo said, “Scholarship donors value education. Barger wins for second week in a row at I-90
Madison’s Nate Barger and the “Point Bar #98” came up from the seventh spot to win the Spielman Excavating IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars on Saturday night, at I-90 Speedway in Hartford. Brookings Man Injured in Lawnmower Accident
A Brookings man was injured Tuesday afternoon after he was thrown from a lawnmower when it was struck by a vehicle. 18-year-old Daniel Klug was riding a Hustler riding lawnmower across Main Avenue South at the intersection of Blue Bell Drive at about 1:45 p.m. when he was hit by a southbound 1999 Buick LeSabre driven by 61-year-old Althea Davis of Brookings.

The commissioners will discuss retail malt beverage and S.D. farm wine license renewals; acknowledge bid dates for city of Madison water system improvements and sanitary sewer CIPP lining projects; authorize the mayor to sign agreements with Verizon Wireless (modification agreement) and Lake County (fuel system agreement); authorize the mayor to sign an audit engagement letter with Schoenfish & Co. Inc.; declare surplus property (scrap wire/miscellaneous) and appoint appraisers.
