Ruston, La. (KTVE/KARD) — In this week’s Bulldog Blitz sponsored by Jim Taylor Ford in Ruston Louisiana Tech baseball dropped a big series this past weekend against New Mexico State, but the Bulldogs do not have time to linger on the loss with just two series left in the regular season and the most crucial part of the season lies ahead of them within the next two weeks.

The Bulldogs are gearing up for a matchup against the number one team in Conference USA against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, but the Bulldogs have the privilege of controlling their own destiny while currently sitting in third place in the conference. They host their toughest matchup thus far against the Hilltoppers at home and also host the Conference USA Championship tournament in their own stadium.

During Tuesday’s press conference Louisiana Tech Baseball Head Coach Lane Burroughs talked about there still being a lot of ball left to play, and that the message to his team before they left out of New Mexico was that if they finish strong, they’ll have the opportunity to sit atop the rest of the conference as the best team.

“The message was Hey you still are in position to go win this league. There’s not of teams that can wake up on May 7th and say if we take care of business, we’re conference champions. We’re one of them, can we do it? I don’t know I don’t have a crystal ball, but we’ve put ourselves in this position and I think if you would’ve said Hey, 35-15 with six games left and you can be conference champions I think we would’ve all signed up for it,” said Burroughs.

The series opener for Louisiana Tech vs Western Kentucky will start on Friday at J.C Love Park at 6 p.m.
