    Royals baseball team earns first two wins of the season

    The Royalton Royals celebrated thier first two victories of the 2024 season after taking on Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City in a double header at home Thursday April 25.

    The Royals won the first game 4-0, with all runs scored at the bottom of the second inning. The Royals’ Nick Liebold had three hits and one run. Keaton Nelson and Jonah Schnieder scored a run and two walks each.

    The game ended with the Royals having five hits and ACGC earning three. neither had any errors. Liebold pitched all seven innings, allowing one walk and throwing five strikeouts.

    Both teams stayed neck to neck in the second game of the double header. After ACGC scored a run at the bottom of the first inning, The Royals answered at the top of the second with a RBI hit from Matthew Swenson, sending Schneider from second base to home plate. Neither team scored until the top of the seventh inning, when Schneider hit a single sending Ethan Albright from second base to home plate, scoring the winning run.

    Sean Schmidtbauer pitched for a little over six innings, throwing six strikeouts and walking four. Both teams earned three hits each. Again, niether team made any errors.

    The Royals played a double header against Paynesville Wednesday, May 1 to play in another double header against Paynesville Area, Wednesday, April 1, at Putz Field in St. Cloud. The Royals lost the first game 11-0. Liebold led the team being 2-2 at the plate, along with a two-base hit. The Royals lost the second game 5-2, with the two runs scored by Brady Yourczek

    The Royals’ home game against Maple Lake Monday, April 29, was postponed until Friday, May 10.

    They will travel to thier next game against Osakis Monday, May 6.
