State files response in infant murder case
Prosecutors have filed a request with the Ohio 6th District Court of Appeals seeking permission to appeal Judge Stacy Cook’s decision to grant Ahmad Williams a new trial in the death of his infant son. Williams was convicted Aug. 11, 2023, for the murder of his 10-month-old son a year earlier. On May 9, Judge Cook ruled one of the jurors in Williams’ trial brought in “extraneous prejudicial information” in the form of personal medical expertise that went beyond the evidence presented in the case, swaying several jurors from innocent to guilty votes. The state’s motion for leave to appeal, filed on Monday, asks the appellate court to hear a debate over Judge Cook’s decision.

TPD car hits man accused of leading officers on chase into cemetery
TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - A Toledo Police vehicle crashed into a man who was running from police after allegedly leading officers on a chase in a stolen vehicle, TPD says. Police tried to stop a stolen Buick in relation to a shots fired call on Caroline in Toledo around 4:00 a.m. on June 8. Juneteenth celebration, voting rally planned
Smith Park Proud along with the First Unitarian Church of Toledo will hold a Juneteenth celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 19 at Smith Park, 998 Dorr St. There will be three re-enactors of the 5th Regiment of the United States Colored Troops on hand in Civil War-period uniforms to tell the history of the 150 Colored Troops regiments throughout the war. The 5th Regiment from Ohio was the most decorated. Of the 1,000 troops in the 5th Regiment, 200-300 were killed in battle or by disease. People from the organization Election Protection will also be on hand to give attendees information about voting and voter registration.

Closure of Lime City Road bridge to last four months during repair
TOLEDO, Ohio — Beginning Monday, the Lime City Road bridge crossing I-75 in Rossford will be closed for repairs, a closure that will last the next four months. The closure is a result of an incident in February 2023, when a semi-truck, traveling on I-75, hit the overpass from underneath. At that point, traffic on the bridge was reduced to one lane, instead of two.
Free community cookout planned in Maumee to celebrate receiving Strongest Town award
