On Monday, May 13, the Oakmont baseball and softball teams will be playing for something bigger than just the game. Both teams will be hosting Breast Cancer Awareness games simultaneously to celebrate the life of Elizabeth “Betty” Reid, who passed away in March.

The softball team will be facing Monty Tech, which is coached by David Reid , Betty’s husband. Reid is a longtime coach and athletic director for the Bulldogs, as well as an Oakmont Regional High School Hall of Famer. These games will hit close to home for the Reid family, as their grandchildren, Sam and Mia Curtis, play on the Oakmont baseball and softball teams. Betty was a huge supporter of Gardner-area athletics, always at her grandchildren’s and husband’s games.

The teams are looking to collect donations for the North County Land Trust, an organization that Betty was passionate about and participated as a member of the Board of Directors. A lover of the outdoors and hiking, she supported the organization in its mission to preserve land and water resources in the Northern Central Mass. region.

Fans are welcome to donate on game day or can follow this online link to do so in Betty’s memory. Both games will start at 3:30 p.m. on Monday at Oakmont, with softball playing Monty Tech and baseball facing Saint Paul of Worcester. The community is excited to play for such a special cause and celebrate the light that Betty brought to that community.
