ROCKTON, Ill. (WTVO) — A bill has passed the state house that designates the stretch of Illinois Route 75 from East Union Street to East River Street as the “Chief Arthur L. Weston Memorial Highway”. The bill now goes to the state senate.

Weston served as chief for the Byron and Roscoe Police Departments, organized the Rock Valley Security and was the deputy coroner for Winnebago County.

“Chief Weston’s heroic actions and dedication to public service continue to inspire us all,” said Rep. Cabello. “This memorial highway will serve as a lasting tribute to his legacy, reminding us of the courage and commitment required to keep our communities safe.”

On October 27th, 1977, Weston suffered fatal chest pains after apprehending a burglary suspect after a fierce confrontation.
