ROOTSTOWN — After Mogadore shut Rootstown out in their first meeting, the Rovers struck back behind three home runs, two by Shelbie Krieger and one by Kaitlyn Hammerschmidt.

Rootstown took a quick lead in Tuesday's Portage Trail Conference softball showdown on Krieger's solo shot in the first, then ran away for a 9-2 win behind three-run blasts by Hammerschmidt and Krieger.

Krieger also starred in the circle, limiting the potent Wildcats to two runs on four hits and striking out 11 against one walk. Most impressive, the Miami (Ohio) commit pulled a Houdini act in the fourth, escaping a bases-loaded, no-out situation without yielding a run.

    Waterloo 15, Sebring McKinley 4

Taryn Brown singled, tripled and scored three runs while Savannah Francis added a double, single and two RBIs for the Vikings (6-8, 6-7 Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Scarlet Tier).

    Aurora 12, Cuyahoga Falls 1

McKennah Metzger followed Monday's perfect game with a four-hitter Tuesday, allowing one run and striking out 10.

Julia Miller homered, singled and drove in three runs, while Lailah Bohanan also had multiple hits and three RBIs. Sophie Retton reached in all four of her plate appearances for the Greenmen (16-0, 10-0 Suburban American), with two singles, a double and a walk.

    Southeast 15, Warren JFK 2

Miranda Timko and Savannah Powell combined on a one-hitter and struck out 10.

Morgan Muncy and Lexi Morris each had a home run in three hits and three RBIs.

Muncy also tripled, as did Ava Stephens and Neena Truex.

    Field 10, Norton 2

The Falcons clinched a share of the Metro Athletic Conference title behind big performances by Maddie Burge and Lilli Sutkowy.

Burge picked up her 13th win in the circle and also singled and doubled, while Sutkowy had two doubles, a single and a homer for Field (18-2, 11-0).

    Woodridge 12, Ravenna 2

The Ravens fell despite two hits apiece by Whitney Holmes and Kasey Sterba.

    Streetsboro 5, Norton 2

The Rockets raced to a sweep of the Panthers, scoring one run in the first and tacking on four in the second.

Wilson also had a team-leading three hits, while Matt Klimak singled, doubled and scored two runs.

Southeast 8, St. Thomas Aquinas 7

Down 7-2, the host Pirates rallied with three runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the seventh.
