Dramatic home run lifts Peoria Notre Dame baseball to first regional in 10 years
PEORIA — Lawson Alwan sent a screaming soaring blast over the right field fence that carried the Peoria Notre Dame baseball program to heights it hadn't reached in a decade. The left-handed hitting junior catcher came to the plate with Notre Dame trailing in the bottom of the sixth inning on Saturday, and belted a no-doubt two-run homer over the wall off a 2-1 pitch from righty reliever Miles Hoops.

Raising the bar: Metamora basketball player advances to IHSA state track meet in four events
GALESBURG — Nick Walker leaped over the high jump bar and landed in the IHSA state finals field Thursday in the Class 2A boys track and field Galesburg Sectional. The Metamora senior turned his vertical leap on the basketball court into a sectional high jump championship, while also showing the horizontal chops to go the distance to a third-place finish and state-qualifying performance in the long jump.
Baseball Recap: Rock Island's loss ends five-game winning streak at home
It was a good run, but Rock Island unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 12-7 to the Washington Panthers. Dunlap qualified both of its doubles teams plus two singles players Saturday for the IHSA boys tennis state finals next week in the Chicago area.
