Roland-Story girls track and field stays strong, boys golf lands in first

The Roland-Story girls track and field team continued the solid start to its season after competing in a pair of meets this past week.

The Norsemen began their week running at the Madrid Invitational on April 9, where they placed second in a field of eight total teams after finishing with 128 total team points.

Roland-Story had a number of top three finishes at the meet, led by junior Claire Truesdell, who placed second in both of her events. Truesdell grabbed second in both the 1,500 and 3,000-meter runs with times of 5:36.99 and 11:43.63, respectively.

Junior Kamryn Lande also had a strong day, earning first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.04 seconds.

Also performing well individually for the Norsemen were juniors Kennedy Petersen and Adalyn Sporleder, who each finished second in their respective events. Petersen did so in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.74 seconds while Sporleder did in the long jump with a jump of 16-11.00.

The Norsemen also did well in the relays, with their sprint medley, 4x200 meter relay and 4x400 meter relays each placing first. Roland-Story’s distance medley grabbed second at the meet as well while its 4x800 meter relay finished third.

Roland-Story then competed at the East Marshall Invite on April 11, where it tied for third with 81 total points.

Lande once again grabbed first in the 100 with a time of 13.14 seconds, followed by Sporleder, who grabbed second in the same event with a time of 13.48 seconds. Sporleder also finished third in the long jump with a jump of 15-03.50 for another solid day.

Petersen also had a good day, earning second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.11, while senior Lauryn Kilsofte was not long behind her with a time of 1:04.31.

Rounding out the big individual performances was Truesdell, who came up big yet again in the 3,000, placing second with a time of 11:47.50.

Roland-Story’s relays also did well, with its sprint medley relay earning first and its 4x100 meter relay and 4x800 meter relay finishing third.

Boys golf lands in first

The Roland-Story boys golf team remained on top of the conference standings following another strong week of play.

The Norsemen hosted a triangular on April 11 with Colo-Nesco and Saydel, where they placed first with a score of 169, 20 shots ahead of second-place Colo-Nesco.

Roland-Story had all of its top four golfers place in the top four, led by junior Braylen Loots, who was the meet medalist with a score of 41. Senior Nels Hanson finished as the runner-up by shooting a 42.

Also scoring for the Norsemen were junior Jack Birkland and sophomore Hayden Janssen, who finished third and fourth, respectively, with scores of 42 and 44 each.

The Norsemen then competed in a dual against Ogden on April 12, where they won once again 164-183.

Loots was once again meet medalist with a score of 36, while Birkland was the runner-up with a score of 41. Sophomore Hayden Eslick followed in third with a score of 42 while senior Dylan Gustafson rounded out Roland-Story’s top four in sixth, shooting a 45.

Roland-Story ended its week by competing at the Ram Invitational on April 13, placing first with a score of 333.

Loots led the Norsemen once more, placing second with a score of 81, while Hanson wasn’t far behind in fourth with a score of 82. Birkland landed in sixth after shooting an 84 and Gustafson was the final scorer for Roland-Story with a score of 86 to place him 10th.
