Editor’s note: Due to production deadlines, the results of Monday’s semifinal round are not available for the Wednesday print edition. We’ll post updates from those games on our Facebook page and in Saturday’s online edition.

BOONES CREEK — The Rogersville City School baseball team erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie and held on to beat University School 11-5 on Saturday to advance to the sectional semifinals for the first time in school history.

The victory put the Warriors two wins away from a trip to the TMSAA state baseball tournament.

Teegan LeRoy had three hits, all doubles, and drove in three runs. Zack Daniel also doubled to drive in three runs in RCS’ big sixth inning and finished with four RBIs for the Warriors.

RCS picked up eight hits in the game to University School’s seven. In addition to the three by LeRoy and one by Daniel, Conner Lyons, Cruz McBrayer, Landon Davis and Layton Ball had one each.

RCS also managed to work the University School pitchers for seven walks in the game. Mac Phillips and Putnal each walked twice.

Conner Lyons started and threw 5 1/3 innings for RCS, giving up three earned runs on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Landon Davis threw 2/3 and allowed two earned runs on one hit with four walks. Cade Putnal closed it out with a scoreless inning in relief. He gave up one hit, walked one and struck out one. The RCS defense did its part, turning two double plays in the game.

RCS (14-7) will face Unicoi County, the top seed from Area 3, in the Class A Section 1 semifinals on Monday, May 6, at 5 p.m. on field 3 at Boones Creek Elementary School. A win there would propel them into the sectional finals on Tuesday, May 7, on field 2 at Boones Creek.

The Section 1 champion advances to the TMSAA State Baseball Championships on May 16-17 at Drakes Creek Park in Hendersonville.
