The Cherokee duo of Jacob Berryhill and Isaac Chandler finished eighth in the Tennessee Bass Nation high school division event at Lake Chickamauga on Saturday, April 27, with a five-fish limit weighing in at 15.36 pounds.

The Chuckey-Doak team of Nicholas Palazzo and Gage Ricker finished seventh.

Saturday’s performance was enough to put Berryhill and Chandler in a tie atop the high school standings alongside Alcoa’s Walker LaRue and Joe Vaulton. Each team has amassed 781 points. Kaden Casey and Collin French of Montgomery County sit just one point back (780) in third place.

At Chickamauga, Holt Owens and Wyatt Shirran of Midway High School reeled in five fish for 23.15 pounds and the win. Hunter Webb and Benjamin Singleton of Dickson County finished second (21.53) and Brody Teller and Will Anderson of Sumner County finished third (20.38).

The Big Fish award (11.03) went to Turner Tharpe and Owen Ray of Rhea County Eagle Anglers. Rhea County also won the team awards in both the high school and junior divisions.

There were 148 boats in Saturday’s high school event. The high school anglers reeled in 387 fish for a total of 941.49 pounds.

Randy Berryhill serves as the boat captain for the Cherokee team. The top 50 teams qualify to fish the 2024 state championship at Paris Landing on May 31 and June 1.
