UPDATE 9:44 PM – The Logan-Rogersville Fire Protection District says that the woman has been recovered from the water and is safe.

The Logan-Rogersville Police Department says the woman was swimming in the water when she got tired and was unable to come back across the river due to the current.

When the fire department arrived, they deployed a boat and were able to save her. The woman did not suffer any injuries.

Assistant Fire Chief Grant Peters says although the water in the river has receded from this past weekend’s rainy weather, the waters are still murky, dark and full of big currents.

“This is flood water. It’s very murky. It’s dark. There’s a lot of debris, sticks, logs coming down the river,” said Peters. “When night falls, we can’t see those typically out there.”

The fire department still urges those to wear a lifejacket in the water or on the bank in case something like this happens.

    Original Story:

GREENE COUNTY, Mo. — The Logan-Rogersville Police Department is working a water rescue at the Joe Crighton Access Point near James River just east of Springfield Wednesday night.

The Logan-Rogersville Police Chief says a woman is stuck near the bank. The fire department says since the water is not that deep, they will be going in to rescue her.

This is a breaking news story. We will provide an update when they become available.
