KDH Wawa to open May 16, EC store sometime later this year
As construction ramps up on the Wawa store in Elizabeth City, the Pennsylvania-based convenience store chain says it plans to open its first North Carolina store in Dare County next month. Annual Buxton and Ocracoke Ceremonies to honor WWII sailors will be held on May 9 and May 10
Two annual ceremonies are returning in 2024 to honor the World War II British and Canadian sailors who lost their lives off the Outer Banks 82 years ago. In mid-May, representatives of the U.S. Coast Guard, Coast Guard Auxiliary, U.S. Navy, British Royal Navy, and National Park Service will come together at the British cemeteries on Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands to honor the 63 foreign sailors who perished while protecting our coast.

Cape Point Campground opens for the 2024 season
The Cape Point Campground in Buxton opened for the 2024 season on Saturday, April 27, per a recent announcement from the Cape Hatteras National Seashore (CHNS). The CHNS’ other seasonal campground – the Frisco Campground – opened on March 30, however, the Cape Point Campground’s opening was delayed due to excessive rainfall-related flooding in the area.
