The countdown is on for the 10th anniversary of the Cross-Regional Entrepreneurial Expo and Gauntlet awards ceremony. The Gauntlet is Virginia’s largest business program and competition. More than 100 local entrepreneurs began the program in January with the dream of starting or expanding their business. Cash and in-kind prizes will be awarded based on how they place and will help them accomplish their business goals. ROANOKE, Va. – The 40th annual Scott Robertson Memorial Golf Tournament started Friday under cloudy, dreary conditions at Roanoke Country Club. In the boys 15-18 age group, three-time state champion and Virginia Tech commit Ryan Slonaker carded a 75, +4 in the first round. He collected two bogey’s in his first four holes but made up for it with a pair of birdies on the back nine.

Roanoke 7-Eleven clerk sentenced to 20 years in prison after 2023 shooting
ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)—Court documents showed the 7-Eleven store clerk who shot and killed a customer in April 2023, was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Wednesday, May 16. On April 16, 2023, officers responded to the 7-Eleven on the 1400 block of Gardin Road SW and found an adult man, later identified as Steven Don Crowder, lying unresponsive with a critical gunshot wound. Police pronounced Crowder dead at the scene.

A federal grand jury returned a superseding indictment on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 which was unsealed earlier today, charging Owen Jarboe, age 18, of Hagerstown, Maryland, Evan Strauss, age 26, of Moneta, Virginia, and Brayden Grace, age 18, of Columbus, Ohio, with conspiracy, cyberstalking, interstate threatening communications, and threats to damage or destroy by means of fire and explosives.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. – The Carilion New River Valley Medical Center Pediatric Specialty Clinic is officially open. “This is a culmination of a tremendous amount of work over the past several years to integrate our pediatric specialty services into the New River Valley to be able to support the patients here,” said Amy Kageals, senior director for Carilion Children’s outpatient services.
