Locals capture regional track championships

Four relay teams and one individual from Twin Counties high schools became regional champions in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Class 2A Mideast and Class 3A Mideast Regional Track and Field Championships held Friday and Saturday at UNC-Pembroke.

In the 2A Mideast Regional, the Nash Central girls 1600-meter relay team and the NC boys 3,200-meter relay team finished first in their respective events.

In the 3A Mideast Regional, D.J. Pridgen of Southern Nash won the 300-meter hurdles while the Northern Nash boys 3,200-meter relay team and the Rocky Mount girls 3,200-meter relay team also took first place.

In the 2A team standings, the Nash Central boys took second place with 83.50 points, just 3.50 points away from a regional title (Seaforth had 87 points).

The Nash Central girls placed sixth with 46.50 points.

In the 3A team standings, the Rocky Mount boys were third (50 points) while Northern Nash was fourth (48.25) and Southern Nash 16th (16.50).

The Rocky Mount girls were fifth overall with 54 points. Southern Nash was 20th (six points) and Northern Nash was 23rd (three points).
