ROSCOE — Senior co-captains Danielle Franz and Natalie Kinney combined for seven hits, two runs and six runs batted in to lead Hononegah’s softball team to a 16-6 victory over Belvidere.

The game was stopped after six innings by the 10-run mercy rule. Hononegah (15-1) improved to 9-0 in NIC-10 action and posted its 14th straight win overall.

The Indians never trailed after scoring three times in the first inning. They tacked on three more in the third and after the Bucs tallied four runs in the fourth on a grand slam home run by Zoe Gehrke, Hononegah answered with four in the bottom of the inning. The key blows were a run-scoring double by Kinney and a three-run homer by Addison Hulburt.

Franz had a sacrifice fly in the first inning, a single in the second, a double in the fourth, a home run in the fifth and another single in the sixth. She was 4-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs.

Kinney was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI and Hulburt was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs. Peyton Klikno and Kaelyn Kelly also had two hits apiece.

Irelyn O’Brien started on the pitcher’s rubber for Hononegah and went three innings, allowing four hits and zero runs to pick up the win. Mackenzie Haas, Emma Tapia and Sam Nosbisch all pitched in relief for the Indians.

Gehrke was 2-for-4 with a run scored and four RBIs for Belvidere.

    • BRODHEAD 13, EAST TROY 3: Sophie Leitzen capped a nine-run first inning for Brodhead with a two-strike grand slam — her second hit of the frame — to help lead the Cardinals to their 10th straight win Monday in Brodhead.

Visiting East Troy showed a little life in the later innings after Brodhead pulled starting pitcher Ava Risum, including a two-run homer off the bat of Irelyn Loomis in the top of the fifth that made it 11-2 and postponed the mercy-rule finish.

Leitzen added a third hit and fifth RBI to her tally in the bottom of the sixth after the Trojans made it 11-3 in the top half, and Tessa Kloepping scored on a passed ball that made it 13-3 to end the game early.

In addition to Leitzen’s big day, Jaelyn Hilliard went 3 for 4, Karli Krumwiede had two hits, and Kloepping had a double and an RBI.

Risum pitched three scoreless innings for Brodhead (10-0, 9-0 Rock Valley), striking out five and allowing a hit.

    • BELOIT MEMORIAL 8, WILMOT 3: Trinity Winfield blasted a pair of homers to help the Purple Knights blow past the Panthers in Southern Lakes Conference action at Telfer Park.

Winfield blasted a three-run homer to center as part of a five-run third while adding a solo home run to center in the fifth.

Amya Clark and Jasmine Smith both hit doubles and Chesney Bishop had an RBI single. Rilynne Cleland finished with two hits and went seven innings from the mound while allowing four hits, three runs (two earned) with 11 strikeouts.

    Beloit (6-5, 3-4 SLC) outhit Wilmot (2-9, 1-6) 7-4.

    • NORTH BOONE 11, WINNEBAGO 1: Ava Torres brought home three runners and Danielle Goodman whacked a solo homer as the Vikings downed the Indians in five innings during Big Northern action on Monday.

Torres had a two-run single in the third and a one-run single as part of a six-run fourth, where Goodman homered, Lauren Stefek smacked a one-run single and Olivia Johnson hit an RBI double for hosting North Boone (16-3, 9-1).

Goodman, Marlee Alderman, Torres and Johnson all had two hits. Cami Carter threw all five innings and allowed just one earned run on two hits while punching out 11.

Winnebago (6-12, 3-8) was limited to a solo homer by Izzy Burd in the fifth.

    • PECATONICA 7, SOUTH BELOIT 4: The SoBos scored three runs in the seventh but ultimately couldn’t rally in a non-conference loss to the Indians.

Zorah Martin smacked a two-out, two-run triple and scored on Whitney Schnack’s single before a strikeout ended South Beloit’s comeback.

Taylor Castor went 2-for-3 with an RBI single in the sixth while Annabelle Dascher had two hits for the SoBos (7-6), who gave up four runs in the third and a pair in the second.
