ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested Nathan Greer, 39, for allegedly getting on top of a woman and strangling her.

On April 19th, around 10 p.m., police responded to the 1000 block of Broadway for a domestic violence incident. The victim’s neighbor called on her behalf because Greer took her phone, according to authorities.

The woman told officials she and the suspect started arguing and she was going to call the police if he did not leave her apartment.

Greer responded by taking the victim’s phone and putting it in his back pocket, according to court documents. The woman told police she ran away when she realized she did not have her phone towards a hallway, but was pushed down by the suspect.

The suspect then got on top of her and laughed while strangling her for about two minutes, but she was able to kick him off, the woman told officials. She proceeded to get up and bang on her walls while yelling for her neighbor to call the police, according to court records.

Greer ran out of the front door of the apartment and fled the apartment, according to court documents.

Greer is being charged with domestic battery and bodily harm, aggravated domestic battery and strangulation and violation of pre-trial release.
