Beef-A-Roo’s original co-owner Jean Vitale dies

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Jean Vitale, who was the co-owner and operator of Beef-A-Roo for over 40 years, passed away last week at the age of 81.

According to her obituary, Vitale began her career as a registered nurse.

Beef-A-Roo was named the “ Best Regional Food Chain in Illinois ” by Mashed.com in October 2021. The company was founded in Rockford in 1967, and opened its first location in the Chicago suburb of West Dundee in June 2021.

The franchise rights were sold to NEXT Brands and Development in 2021, and the company has since expanded across America, with new locations have opened in Springfield, Missouri; Little Rock, Arkansas; Harrison, Arkansas; Overland Park, Kansas; and Lebanon, Indiana.

Vitale is survived by her children, Melissa, Christine, Nick, Rebecca, and Roberta, grandchildren and siblings.
