    Unoccupied school bus crash

    Update posted May 1Oregon State Police have released details of a crash along Highway 101 at Rockaway Beach involving an unoccupied school bus April 30. Vehicle one, a White 1993 Ford Ranger, was traveling northbound. Vehicle two, a yellow 2016 Thomas School Bus, was unoccupied and parked on the shoulder of the highway. The driver of the Ford Ranger, identified as Jonathon Christian Jones, 57, of Rockaway Beach, stated he fell asleep. The Ford Ranger drove into the unoccupied school bus. Jones was transported by ambulance to Tillamook Hospital. His condition was not immediately available.     According to the Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO), at approximately 1:30 p.m. April 30, Tillamook 911 dispatched Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers and TCSO deputies to a report of a white Ford Ranger that had crashed into a parked, unoccupied school bus, on Highway 101 near Hollyhock Street in Rockaway Beach.

    "We responded to a single vehicle that ran into a school bus in front of the bus barn on 101 in Rockaway Beach," TCSO Deputy Sean Ahlers said. "The bus was unoccupied. No students were on board. The driver of the Ford Ranger was evaluated by medics from Tillamook Ambulance.”

    The bus is identified as one from the Neah-Kah-Nie School District.

    OSP is the investigating agency for the incident. Specific details of the crash are pending.
