Young finding his stride under center for Allatoona
Allatoona faces its toughest test of the season when the Buccaneers travel to visit four-time state champion Cartersville in Region 7AAAAA action in Weinman Stadium on Friday. Fortunately for Allatoona, the player leading the charge against the Purple Hurricanes will be quarterback Frank Young. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound senior has had his ups and downs, along with some injuries to overcome in becoming Allatoona's quarterback. However, he enters the contest riding a wave of momentum after producing one of the best games of his career last week in handing Villa Rica a 39-19 loss. Young ran for 124 yards and two touchdown while also completing 7-of-8 passes for 76 yards and another score in a 39-19 victory over Villa Rica. "It was definitely one of the best games of his season, and I'm super excited for him," Allatoona first-year head coach Paul Carter said. "We gave him a different opportunity under center and he gained more confidence. It allowed him to get more yards without having to throw the ball, move the offense downfield and it paid off." Young's patience from the injury last year has really paid off. He wasn't able to play in 2025 due to an injured shoulder,

North Cobb, Walton meet for playoff positioning
North Cobb and Walton may need some help to get back into the Region 5AAAAAAA championship race. But when the two teams meet Friday night, there will still be plenty at stake. With postseason positioning and the possibility of hosting a first-round playoff game hanging in the balance, both programs are focused on finishing the regular season strong, even as the Postseason Seeding Rating (PSR) adds uncertainty to the playoff picture. For Walton coach Daniel Brunner, the rankings are worth watching, but they aren't something he wants his players worrying about. "It's up in the air with the PSR," Brunner said. "It's not like in the past where if you're a No. 2 seed out of the region, you're going to automatically get to host." Brunner said he and his coaching staff have discussed the rankings, but the message to his players remains straightforward. "All we can do is try to go 1-0 each week as we finish up these last three games and let the PSR take care of itself," Brunner said. "It's definitely on my mind, and we've talked about it as a coaching staff, but really not trying to have the kids worrying about it." North Cobb
