ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Thanks to the efforts of students at Anna Murray-Douglass School No. 12, a new drinking fountain was unveiled on Thursday.

As part of project-based learning, students at the school researched what it would take to bring an outdoor drinking station to their playground.

The participating students identified a problem, if kids at the school wanted a drink during playtime, they had to walk into the school or the Frederick Douglass R-Center. With the weather warming up, staying hydrated is important.

Those involved in the project went to the City’s Department of Recreation and Human Services and City Council members with their “soapbox” speeches that they delivered to the City Council on why adding a drinking station to the playground is important.

Their voices were heard and the newly unveiled fountain now sits at the playground outside of their school.
