ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The New York State Police released the results of this year’s ‘Operation Hardhat’.

For this ongoing operation, NYSP dressed up as highway maintenance workers and gave tickets to people who sped by. Troopers say the goal is to emphasize the importance of safe driving when encountering construction, maintenance, and emergency operations along state highways.

This year, Troopers with the TIM unit dressed as Department of Transportation construction workers on I-390 in the Town of Brighton and issued 66 traffic infractions. Out of those 66 tickets, 60 were said to have been issued for speed with a top speed of 106 m.p.h., according to NYSP.

Troopers wanted to remind drivers that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone and convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone can result in the suspension of a driver’s license.
