ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The City of Rochester ordered a road closure along Elm Street downtown due to dangerous conditions near a derelict building.

According to the city engineer, loose materials on the exterior of the former Cadillac Hotel and the Richford building have grown to become a safety hazard for passing motorists and pedestrians.

Elm Street will remain closed between Atlas Street and Chestnut Street until the safety issues are addressed, as well as the southbound sidewalk and parking lane along Chestnut Street between Euclid Street and East Broad Street.

In a statement Tuesday evening, the city said the property owners would be required to “alleviate the hazards in the coming days and provide a licensed engineer report stating that all hazards have been mitigated.”

We are expecting more information on the status of the building during a briefing Wednesday afternoon with the city’s corporation counsel.
