ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) – Weather whiplash in WNY isn’t uncommon during spring. I’m not sure that will offer much comfort for some of wild changes ahead.

Rain showers will press eastward this evening, overspreading the region with a slug of several hours of relatively steady rain. Behind this first wave, scattered rain showers will linger through the remainder of the night as we await the main cold front and subsequently colder air. This will allow temperatures to bleed into the 30s for a time Wednesday, perhaps cold enough to support a brief period of frozen precipitation to develop.

Even if we’re able to generate a few flakes, the fleeting moisture will keep snow limited. Shy of a quick dusting, it won’t stick. Moisture rapidly gets stripped into the afternoon and will allow clearing to overspread WNY from north to south later in the day. As skies clear, temperatures will be able to plummet below freezing and into the upper 20s by Thursday morning. We’ll likely be in that ballpark again Friday morning.

Friday looks great with sunshine and highs back into the 60s. Showers Saturday give way to much warmer air Sunday as we surge into the 70s. Early indications suggest we could be 80° by Monday.
