Rochester Hills man facing charges after victims say he approached them with a knife in Macomb road rage incident

MACOMB TWP. (WWJ) -- A Rochester Hills man is facing felony charges after what officials describe as a "road rage incident" involving a knife in Macomb Township over the weekend.

The Macomb County Sheriff's Office said it happened Saturday, May 18, in the area of North Avenue and 26 Mile Road.

A 63-year-old Roseville man called 911 to report he was driving his SUV north on North Ave. at 21 Mile Rd., when the driver of a pickup truck was trying to merge, but couldn't. The victim said the pickup driver then started driving erratically, passing multiple vehicles in the southbound lanes, while heading north on North Ave.

The truck driver, later identified as 33-year-old Ryan Borella, passed the SUV before stopping at a red light at 24 Mile Rd. That's when it's alleged Borella got out of his truck and confronted the victim, while armed with a knife.

The victim told investigators that both he and his passenger, a 38-year-old woman, were fearful for their safety, according to the sheriff's office.

The suspect left the scene, but he was identified, located, and arrested without incident. A knife was found in his truck, officials said.

Borella was arraigned in 41A1 District Court in Shelby Township on one count of carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, which is a five year felon; and two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon (felonious assault), which is a four-year felony.

Bond was set at $20,000, cash/surety. It's unclear if he posted bond or was still in jail on Tuesday.
