Future of Evansville's old YMCA could be a wrecking ball after setback
EVANSVILLE — Stopped cold in its bid for a charitable use property tax break for Evansville's former YMCA building downtown, Indiana Landmarks says demolition of the venerable old structure is a real possibility. The statewide nonprofit historic preservation group and the YMCA of Southwestern Indiana made a deal in fall 2023 for the former to retain property title to the building at Sixth and Court streets for two years while Landmarks worked to find a new owner. The group was asking the three-member PTABOA to reverse the county assessor's original 2024 decision not to grant the property tax exemption, even as Landmarks admitted it had inadvertently missed a deadline to appeal. Landmarks now anticipates making an appeal to the Indiana

Www.wkrn.com – Pat O’Donnell – 2025-08-17 06:00:00. Kentucky’s Owensboro City Hall was 44th, while Alabama had five entries, the most by any state. The survey’s top ugliest public building was Flint’s Municipal Center in Michigan. Many listed buildings were courthouses or judicial centers.
