Local animal shelters cutting adoption fees during national adoption event in May

    By James Dalpino,

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The BISSELL Pet Foundation is creating a national call for adoption by hosting it’s Spring National Empty the Shelters event from May 1 to May 15.

The ‘ Spring National Empty the Shelters ’ is taking place at more than 410 events across 43 states, including Southwest and Central Virginia. This effort has helped more than 226,000 pets find loving homes, making the event the largest funded adoption event in the country.

During the event, animal shelters will be reducing adoption fees to $50 or less to get pets from the kennels to your loving homes.

“The nation’s animal shelters are facing a capacity crisis and need your help now. Adoptions have slowed while a surge in owner surrenders due to families facing economic and housing challenges has left tens of thousands of highly adoptable pets desperate to find homes,” said Cathy Bissell , Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “Our Spring National Empty the Shelters will support the adoption of thousands of pets across the country, helping shelters in this critical time. Opening your home to a shelter pet saves a life and creates lifesaving space to help another pet in need.”
