Coast Guard responds to two calls, retrieves 5 off Tampa shores
TAMPA, Fla. (WPEC) — Saturday was a busy day for U.S. Coast Guard members near Tampa who responded to a pair of emergency calls within a three-hour span. The first call came at approximately 11:15 a.m., when the Coast Guardsmen were alerted to a 24-foot boat that was sinking near Gandy Bridge, the USGC stated. When they arrived, there were four men waiting next to the partially submerged craft, which had run aground.

Spectrum internet service was down in parts of Tampa Bay Saturday morning, according to reports from residents, social media and complaints logged on downdetector.com. The service tracking website started citing reports of problems in the area around 6:45 a.m. By 8:48 a.m., reports of outages had spiked to over 1,000 in Tampa, with hundreds reported in St. Petersburg and dozens in Clearwater.
Tampa Bay letter carriers help families in need during annual food drive
TAMPA, Fla. - Tampa Bay food pantries, letter carriers, and residents participated in the 31st annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. The event was led by the National Association of Letter Carriers. Since its inception in 1993, more than 10,000 cities across the country have taken part in the event. In total, 1.9 billion pounds of non-perishables have been collected for families throughout the summer months.
