RISING SUN — An arson investigation is continuing after someone torched a vacant house near Rising Sun early Monday morning, according to the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal.

A passerby called 911 at 12:53 a.m. Monday after discovering the burning building in the unit block of Freemont Road, prompting area volunteer fire companies to respond, fire officials said. The Community Fire Company of Rising Sun served as the on-scene command unit, fire officials added.

Approximately 25 volunteer firefighters battled the blaze for about 45 minutes before bringing it under control, fire officials reported.

An MOSFM spokesperson identified Kerry Darley as the owner of the vacant two-story house and listed no monetary damage.

During their on-scene investigation, MOSFM detectives determined that the fire started inside the house, fire officials said. The investigators also concluded that an unknown person or people intentionally set the blaze, fire officials added.
