Lacrosse team carries winning momentum to the next level
As of press time on Tuesday, Telluride coaches and players didn’t know who they’d first face in the postseason. But prospective opponents Windsor and Glenwood Springs — paired in the 2024 CHSAA Class 4A Boys’ Lacrosse State Tournament’s opening Round-of-24 — know what whichever side survives their duel on May 7, its reward will be a trip into the San Juan Mountains to face one of the stingiest squads in the mix.
'Strong cold front' blows into Telluride Sunday night
Springtime in the San Juans means anything goes when it comes to weather. A “strong cold front” predicted to blow in to Telluride Sunday night, as National Weather Service meteorologist Matthew Aleksa characterized it, is not out of the ordinary this time of year. “The cold front and the big winds ahead of it will be the bigger story” for the southwest part of the state, according to Aleksa, adding that there will be “not much snow — maybe two inches in Telluride” and “upwards of five inches in the high country” accompanying the storm.
A funding plea for Fete de la Musique
Founded in France, Fete de la Musique (a festival of music) is a popular tradition in the streets of downtown Ridgway. “Drawing our community together in harmony and joy, centered around free live music for all,” as a release puts it, the fourth edition of the festival — a celebration of World Music Day slated for Sunday, June 30 — could be its last.
Make solar make sense
We have liftoff! The solar moonshot has left the launchpad. The centralized industrialization of photovoltaic energy is underway with a sense of purpose not seen since America won World War II. Back then, the military industrial complex had to act fast to build atomic bombs with uranium dug from Colorado’s West End. Faced with the existential threat of Axis imperialism, there was no time for environmental impact studies by the mining companies or public feedback sessions with elected officials.

Clear Skies Today with Afternoon Wind Gusts
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Showers from yesterday and last night which moved in with a cold front have diminished or moved east. As a result of the cold front and its movement, dry air moves from the west to follow. Cold dry air and light wind causes radiational cooling this morning. These factors are responsible for the colder temperatures today.
