Salvation Army seeks donations to send kids to camp
“Can I go back now? A year is too long to wait," said Brody Davis, 9, following last year's camping trip he took to Camp Redwood Glen thanks to The Salvation Army. Every summer, deserving kids are given an amazing week away at summer camp. Eighty-degree days and cool starry nights in the glen. A creek to explore, the redwood forest to hike, and the field to play in. They look forward to bunk beds, campfires, and the dining hall.

Pink Ladies install new officers
Ridgecrest Regional Hospital Pink Ladies recently held their annual initiation luncheon for their new officers. They are (from left) Secretary, Jerry Broaker; President, Karen Rivers; Treasurer, Elena Ennis; and Vice President, Pam Thompson. The Pink Ladies volunteer in different areas of the hospital and have a get together monthly luncheon. All monies earned in the lobby gift shop are donate to the hospital for their use. If you are interested in volunteering 3-4 hours a week Monday through Friday, please stop by the gift shop for an application.

‘Take Flight’ sculpture commemorates college’s 50th Anniversary
A new addition to the sculpture garden is building on post-graduation excitement at Cerro Coso Community College’s Ridgecrest campus. The student fence panel project and sculpture garden are an ongoing endeavor of the Visual and Performing Arts Department, which provides advanced students the opportunity to create large-scale, outdoor public art. It is a long-term project, taking many years to accomplish, and involves students from incredibly diverse backgrounds and artistic interests. It also engages the public in an immediate and enduring appreciation of art, serving to beautify the Cerro Coso Ridgecrest campus thoughtfully.
WACOM continues to give back to the community
For the past 70 years, dedicated volunteers of the Women's Auxiliary of the Commissioned Officer's Mess (WACOM) have been working hard collecting, sorting and selling donated items it receives to sell in its Thrift Store in an effort to give back to the men and women who sacrifice so much for our country as members of the active-duty military.

SSUSD honors employees, volunteers
As the 2023-24 school year ends, the Sierra Sands Unified School District honored its employees, retirees, and volunteers for their service to the district in two events. The Kerr McGee Center was the setting for May 8, the California Day of the Teacher, when the district held its annual Employee of the Year Awards Event. The Burroughs High School Madrigals performed, and Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Bryan Auld served as master of ceremonies.

Sierra Sands Unified School District– James Monroe Middle School, a proud member of the Sierra Sands Unified. School District (SSUSD), is committed to providing a safe and conducive learning environment for our students, staff, and community. Unfortunately, we are facing an unexpected challenge due to a sewer system failure on our campus. The sewer system issue has led to the closure of staff restrooms, impacting both employees and visitors. In response to this situation, portable toilets have been installed to ensure basic facilities are available during this period.
