    Person attacked, slashed with knife in Richmond alleyway

    RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A person was hospitalized Friday afternoon after they were reportedly attacked in an alley in Richmond’s Downtown area, according to police.

    According to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Police, at about 12:18 p.m. on Friday, May 24, officers responded to the 200 Block of W. Franklin Street for report of an aggravated assault.

    When officers arrived at the scene, they found the unidentified victim in an alley. According to police, the victim said they had bent over to pick up an item from the ground when the attack occurred.

    The victim said they were hit in the head and slashed with a knife by the suspect — described as a 5’2″ Black male — who then fled the scene. He was reportedly wearing a white tank top at the time of the assault.

    According to police, the victim was taken to a local hospital for their injuries.

    The Richmond Police Department is leading the investigation into this assault and will reportedly be increasing patrols in the area.
