Arts in the Park kicks off at Byrd Park in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The first day of the 53rd Arts in the Park show and sale kicked off at Byrd Park this weekend with a variety of artworks for guests to view and purchase.

The Arts in the Park event was held around the Carillon in Byrd Park from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, with over 350 artists displaying their fine art paintings, metal crafts, pottery, jewelry and more.

Julia Garcia said this was his eighth year participating in Arts in the Park. He describes his art style to be similar to cubism.

“I’ve been doing this professionally for 43 years, but I have paintings from six years old,” Garcia said. “It’s the only thing I know how to do — and cook. I can cook a little bit.”

Garcia said Arts in the Park is a top-of-the-line show that brings artists from all over the world. Garcia himself lives half of the year in Florida, and the other half in California, and said people’s love for his work brings him back to this event.

“If you walk [through] this show, you’re going to see so many different artists, and the quality is amazing,” Garcia said. “Plus it’s a family event.”

Arts in the Park will continue for one more day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 5. It is a free event, with free parking and free shuttles available from the City Stadium parking lot.
