Friday Cheers returns to Brown’s Island in Richmond for 39th season

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond’s longest-running spring concert series Friday Cheers will return to Brown’s Island this week. 8News got an inside look at what music lovers can expect to see at the event.

Friday Cheers will celebrate its 39th year of showcasing emerging artists this spring, with eight headlining acts spread across each Friday starting now through June.

The concert takes place on Brown’s Island along the James River. Tickets cost $10 in advance and $15 at the door for each show. A season pass to see all shows costs $65.

8News asked Stephen Lecky, the director of events for Venture Richmond, if fans and music lovers can expect anything new at this year’s Friday Cheers event.

“If it’s not broke, we don’t fix it,” Lecky said. “It’s music, food, kids running around, singles looking to mingle, it is just, like, a lot of fun.”

As showtimes start around dinnertime, Lecky said they have about six vendors that will rotate each week, with Boca Tacos, Westray’s Ice Cream and Timber Pizza offering delicious delicacies this Friday.

Friday Cheers kicks off this week with Bella White performing at 8 p.m. following Colby T. Helms & the Virginia Creepers at 6:30 p.m. this Friday, May 3.
