Nearly two years ago, RPD K9 officer Seara Burton died after being shot while on duty.

This past Sunday, the RPD K9 Division announced on Facebook a new event to honor her legacy, "Seara's Legacy K9 Trials."

On May 25, K9 teams will be competing in different events with awards to be handed out for best nose and best overall team, among others.

Participation in the competition is only open to law enforcement K9 teams, but attendance is free to the public at the Wayne County Fairgrounds.

Today's good news comes from Krista and Andy Layman, a couple who stayed in the hospital with their daughter Kate until she was 180 days old, due to a heart defect.

Kate died at just under two years old in 2008, but the Laymans wanted to do something to remember her, something that would help other kids.

So, they founded Kate's Kart, a charity that provides new books to children in hospitals, and over the past 15 years, has given away over 425,000 books in Ohio and Indiana, with more locations planned.
